Outreach – Tech Prep

Tech Prep is a sequence of study beginning in high school and continuing through postsecondary technical and occupational education leading to a certificate or associate degree. It prepares students for direct entry into the work force as technically skilled employees and for further education leading to baccalaureate or advance degree.

How Does Tech Prep Work?

Tech Prep = $cholarship! Tech Prep credits provide college credit at The University of Montana - Missoula College of Technology for certain high school classes. By participating in the Tech Prep program you essentially get a scholarship because you do not have to pay tuition for the approved courses that you completed in high school. Every Tech Prep credit you claim saves you money on tuition, fees and books that would otherwise have to be spent taking the course. Taking advantage of Tech Prep credits can save students time and money and help them avoid unnecessary duplication and delays as they complete their post-secondary education.

How Do I Get a Tech Prep Credit?

It begins when The University of Montana - Missoula College of Technology has articulating a course - examined the high school course curriculum and determined that it meets the same educational outcomes as one of our beginning courses. Once a high school course has been articulated, any student who completes the course or series of courses in that high school and passes with a B or better can claim the Tech Prep Credit at the College of Technology.

When applying at the College of Technology, the student must submit a signed "Petition for Tech Prep Credit From" with the application and prior to registering for classes Tech Prep Form. The form can also be obtained from your high school counselor and Tech Prep classroom teachers. After students successfully complete a semester (at least 12 credits) at the College of Technology, the Tech Prep credits will be placed on their college transcripts.
